On average 10-20% of personal costs are connected to inbound logistics. 
Material delivery to the line is not a value added activity but 
necessary to support value adding processes. Internal logistics is the 
nervous system of production. It needs effective tools and methods 
of lean manufacturing to support continuous flow of material. The 
ultimate goal is to create a system in which the right material flows in 
the right amount and at the right time to the right place. 

Kanban, as a basic element in production systems, has two functions:

• to inform that more parts are needed
• to inform transport worker to move needed parts

The first of these functions fulfil Kanban Production, and the second - Kanban Transport. Kanbans must work together, creating a Pull System
